45al-JāthiyahKneeling Downسُورَةُ الجاثية

Ḥā-Mīm [Ḥ-M].

[Through alphabetical letters] Scripture is made available from Allah, the Grand, the Wise.

Verily, in the heavens and earth there are phenomenal proofs [of Allah’s influence and control] provided for the committed muslims,

And [such influence and ability is also active] in the way you were created; and in whatever terrestrial creatures that are dispersed [throughout the world], there are evidences for people who are endowed with innermost certainty;

And in the variation of night and day and in whatever has been sent down by Allah from the sky as [means of] subsistence by which He brings life to a lifeless earth, and in the managing of the wind-flows [patterns] — in all that there are attestations [of Allah’s supremacy and authority] for people who discipline their thoughts.

Those are Allah’s illustrations [of His ability and capacity] that We convey to you in accordance with truth and justice. In what other conversation, if not in these divine illustrations, will they [the mushriks], commit themselves?

Wretched is every villainous falsifier,

Who hears about Allah’s power demonstrations as they are rehearsed to him and then insists on being arrogant as if he heard nothing; do, then, announce to him a painful torment —

For when he gains information about Our power manifestations, he turns them into a laughing matter; such are the ones who shall have a humiliating torment.

Hell will catch up with them, and none of what they acquired [in their worldly life] will be of any benefit to them, and neither will their arranged premier gods to the exclusion of Allah [be of any value to them]: for, an awesome suffering shall be [in store] for them.

This [information] is guidance [for everyone]; but, for those who reject the power illustrations of their Sustainer, awaiting them is suffering made of dreadful and painful features.

It is Allah who made the high seas [suitable] for your utilization so that [your] vessels may sail through them as per His command, and so that you may acquire what you need of His great quantity of amenities, and so that you might become thankful.

And He made functional for you whatever is in the extraterrestrial spheres and whatever is on earth, all together [emanating] from Him: indeed, in that there are evidences [of Allah’s power and preeminence] for people who think.

Say [O Prophet] to those who committed themselves [faithfully to Allah’s primacy and prestige] that they should forgive those who do not yearn for the [coming] Days of Allah [that is, the days of Allah’s victory over His opponents], [since] it is He who requites people for what they may have earned.

Whoever does what is appropriate does so for his own benefit, and whoever does what is unsuitable does so to his detriment; and then unto your Sustainer shall you all return.

And We indeed conferred upon the Children of Israel the scripture, the law, and prophet- hood, and We offered them wholesome sustenance, and We favored them above all peoples [of their time].

And We brought to them clear evidences of [Our divine] substance; and they did not dispute [Our offering] until after such information [from Us] came to them — [due to their penchant] for transgressing [the perimeters of justice] among themselves: certainly, your Sustainer will adjudicate among them on the Day of Resurrection regarding all of what they disputed [among themselves].

Then, finally, [O Muhammad], We placed you on an [obvious] course of action [pertaining to Us]: so follow it and do not follow the whims of those who have no knowledge [thereof].

They, of a certainty, will never avail you against Allah pertaining to any matter, for surely, violators of justice are allies and patrons of each other, whereas Allah is the superior and champion of those who guard [against His eventual corrective power].

This [endowment of intelligence] is a means of insight for people, and it is a guidance and mercy for people bequeathed with confidence.

Do those who injure themselves by their wrongdoings presume that We consider them, in their living and their dying, to be on par with those who commit [to Us] and do what is right and righteous? Bad, indeed, is their judgement:

For, Allah has created the heavens and the earth in accordance with truth and justice so that every living being shall be compensated according to what he acquired [of good or bad deeds] — and none shall be wronged [or mistreated].

Have you not observed he who has styled his god out of his desires and whom Allah [thereupon] misled on the premise of [his false] knowledge, sealing his hearing and his heart, and placing an obfuscation over his vision? Who, then, can guide [such a person] after he [himself abandoned] Allah [the only one who has the capacity to guide]? Can you not have an awareness [of this type of misconduct]?

And they [the materialist God-deniers] say, “What counts is only our worldly life [and no other life]; we die [after living] and live [before dying] and we perish [forever] as a matter of the passage of time.” But they have no knowledge of this [life after death affair]: they only presume [that to be the case].

And so, when Our demonstrations of extraordinary power and authority are rehearsed to them as clearly as possible, their only retort is to say, “Bring [back to life] our ancestors for us, if you are truthful!”

Say, “It is Allah who brings you into life and He takes you into death, and then He will gather you on the Day of Resurrection — about which there is no doubt — but most people are not [practically] aware [of this fact].”

For, to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; and on the Day when the Final Hour arrives — on that Day, those who were inclined to invalidate Our facts [revealed herein] shall lose.

And you will see [on that Day] every consolidated political entity kneeling down, being called upon to yield its record [of worldly deeds], “Today you shall be compensated for what you were doing [when you were in your earthly planet]!

“This is Our register that expresses truth and justice about you: for We, certainly, were ‘videotaping’ everything you were doing!”

Now, as for those who committed themselves [faithfully to Our competence and clout] and did what is right and righteous, their Sustainer will usher them into His grace: that will be the most obvious triumph!

But as for those who were in [worldly] denial [of My right and mandate, they will be told], “Were not My power illustrations rehearsed to you? However, you were arrogant [at the time] and [thus] became a criminal society;

“For when it was said, ‘Allah’s promise is a matter of truth and justice, and there can be no doubt about [the inevitability of] the Final Hour’ — you answered, ‘We have no knowledge about a Final Hour; we can only guess, and so we are not convinced!’”

And [finally] the decadence of what they did [when they were in the world] will be visibly presented to them, and they will be encircled and overwhelmed by the very ridicule they displayed [when they were back in the world].

And [they will hear it] said, “Today We shall forget about you the way your forgot about the coming encounter on this Day; and so, your residing place shall be the Fire and you have no supporters:

“This [will happen], because you mocked Allah’s illustrations of power, being more fascinated by worldly life!” So, on that Day [of Resurrection], they will not escape from it [the Fire], nor will they be allowed to make amends.

And thus, all thankful praise belongs to Allah, the Sustainer of the heavens and the Sustainer of the earth: the Sustainer of all the worlds!

And His alone is the majesty in the heavens and on earth; and He alone is the Grand, the Truly Wise.1
