Has there been a long period of time in which a social being [to himself] was an unknown nothing?

Indeed, We created the social being out of sperm — intertwined genetic material — [and then] We put him to test: and therefore We rendered him very capable of hearing and very capable of seeing.

Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it then becomes his choice to] either be thankful or a denier [of thanks].

Surely, We have arranged chains, shackles, and a raging fire for the deniers [of Allah’s power and authority];

[But then] indeed, the virtuous will be [in heaven] drinking from a wineglass with an infusion of substances of exceptional aroma

[That proceed from] a spring out of which Allah’s [devout] subjects will drink: they [with their virtues] force it [the spring] to burst out [with streaming drinks].

They [in their character of virtue] fulfill their vows and fear a Day on which evils [from their sins] extend and expand [all over the place],

And provide food — even though they long for having it themselves — to the destitute, the orphan, and the captive,

[Saying], “We feed you for the sake of [the approval and gladness of] Allah; we do not expect anything from you — neither recompense nor thanks:

“We, surely, fear a Day forthcoming from our Sustainer — a Day of tense frowning and acute angst.”

Subsequently, Allah will shield them from the troubles of that Day and offer them resplendence and joyfulness,

And reward them for all their [worldly] patience [when the odds were against them] with the garden of Paradise and with [clothes of] silk.

In that [paradise of gardens] they will recline on daybeds, experiencing neither [undesirable] sun [effects] nor freezing [conditions],

And slightly above them shall be its shades, and easy to pick shall be its low-hanging fruit.

And making their rounds amongst them will be containers made of silver and glasses seemingly sparkling —

Sparklers of silver, the value of which they can only guesstimate.

And they will be served therein [Paradise] a wineglass infused with ginger,

A source of [heavenly] water in it, known by the name: quenching and refreshing.

And making their rounds to serve them shall be immortal youths: should you see them, you would suppose they are [like] scattered pearls;

And when you see anything there, you will [actually] be looking at bliss and a vast realm.

Their outer garments will be [made] of fine green fiber and heavy silk, cotton, or woolen fabric, and they will be adorned with bracelets [made] of silver. And they will be given a beverage by their Sustainer — [a beverage] that is absolutely pure.

[And they will be told], “Verily, all this has become your compensation, and your [worldly] endeavor [toward Us] is highly appreciated [by Allah].

Verily, it is We who have emphatically brought down [into your conscience and creation] this Qur’an!

Therefore, be patient as regards your Sustainer’s judgement, and do not acquiesce to any one of them [God-deniers], be he a consistent miscreant or a hardcore God-denier;

And be attentive to your Sustainer’s name early and late in the day,

And prostrate [and show Him respect] during the night, exalting Him throughout the lengthy night.

Behold, these [who dismiss Allah] are in love with a world of fast life [and hasty expiration], and put out of their minds a burdensome Day.

[Let it be known that] We created them and We solidly integrated them [in their spiritual and physical adaptation] — and should We desire, We can [easily] substitute for them others having a similarity [in their basic constituents].

Verily, this is a reprimand: therefore, it becomes anyone’s choice to adopt a path [that leads] to his Sustainer.

But you cannot will [for something] except that Allah has willed it [within His calculated supervision of everything]: for, indeed, Allah has always been very knowledgeable, very wise.

He admits into His mercy whomever He wills [to be admitted in His infinite knowledge and justice]; but as for the violators of justice — for them He has prepared an agonizing affliction [in the life to come, and maybe for some in this life also].
