78al-Naba’Factual Informationسُورَةُ النبإ

What are they [the mushriks and kāfirs] posing questions about?

[They are posing questions] about the astounding [definitive] news

That they have been in disagreement about.

But no! They shall come to know [its truth].

Then, again, no! For they shall come to know [the truth about this matter].

Have We not made the earth a lodging place [for you],

And [made] the mountains [its] moorings,

And created you as couples,

And ordained your sleep as a [daily work] detachment,

And rendered your night as a natural cloak,

And rendered daytime for livelihood,

And built over you seven firmaments,

And placed [there] a glowing source of light,

And released downpours [of precipitation] from cloudbursts —

So that We may thereby sprout grains and crops,

And copious terraces?

Of a certainty, the Day of Sorting [people] out is [appropriately] timed —

The Day when the acoustic device reverberates [loudly] and you all come forward in masses [of people],

And the skies open up and become gateways,

And the mountains shall be set in motion [and vanish] as if they were an [optical] illusion.

Indeed [on that Day], Hell shall be lying in wait [for the kāfirs] —

A residence for transgressors,

[Who will have] to stay there for an untold duration of time.

They shall experience no coolness there nor taste any thirst-quenching drink —

Except boiling water and flowing drainage of human fluids:

[That is their] due recompense.

Behold! They never looked forward to a [favorable divine] accountability,

And they gave the lie to Our [authority and power] illustrations — patently.

But everything [they said and did] We recorded in a registry.

Therefore [you God-deniers], experience [this befitting penalty], for now We will but increase your suffering.

For the muttaqīs, there shall be a winning end:

Gardens and vineyards,

Arousing and matching spouses,

And a full cup.

In there [Paradise] they will not hear empty talk or false statements.

[All this shall be] a recompense from your Sustainer — [out of His] charitableness — beyond any satisfaction [you can imagine]:

[A reward from] the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth, the Mercy-Giver. No one dare reproach Him

On the Day when the rūḥ and the malā’ikah will line up: they will not speak except for he who is permitted by the Mercy-Giver to state the truth.

That is the Day of Ḥaqq; therefore, whoever wishes to may proceed on a course of retreat to his Sustainer.

Indeed, We have put you on notice pertaining to an impending punishment: [on] a Day when a person will look at what his hands have done [in earthly life] and the kāfir will say, “O how I wish I was [and had remained] terrestrial soil.
