92al-LaylThe Nightسُورَةُ الليل

By the night as it straddles [the earth/life] with darkness,

And the day as it comes in sight!

And by [the mystery of] the creation of male and female!

Surely, [O people], your endeavors are a variety [of pursuits]!

And to that end, he who relinquishes and gives [where there is want and need] and thus avoids [Allah’s power presence for justice],

And attests to the ultimate good —

For him We shall facilitate felicity.

But as for he who is parsimonious, and thinks he is in no need [of Allah],

And disputes the ultimate good [as planned by Allah] —

For him We shall facilitate infelicity:

And his money [and wealth] shall not be of any use to him when he descends [into his grave and afterlife].

Behold, it is We who issue guidance;

And, behold, it is We to whom belongs the final life [of yours] and [your] first life:

Therefore I warn you of a blazing fire —

No one shall be scorched by it except for the woefully deplorable,

Who had attributed lies [to Our truth] and lurched away [from Allah].

He who was superbly alert [to Our power and authority during his worldly life] shall be spared [such fate] —

He who had given his money [and wealth] to others as an act of elevated selflessness.

No one can offer him [the one who is superbly alert] a compensatory provision,

Unless [it is the provision of] the longing of his Sustainer’s sublime countenance:

And in time he shall definitely be gratified.
